u4mE: an urban adult’s play apparatus

Our project is titled U4mE (you form me). We imagine it as a companion for households in dense cities.
The apparatus is primarily for moving between storeys within a dwelling unit. It is a stair that the owner can adjust to his pleasure or pragmatic needs. The owner is single / divorced working person who has young children. The apparatus is designed to enhance this double lifestyle: parent and young, single professional. U4mE is an adults’ play apparatus (fitness, sitting, fornicating, reading). Thus, in both instances, the apparatus performs its duty as a circulation device but it can also be reimagined according to the users’ desires.
To fulfil its purpose, U4mE needs to be adjustable, sturdy, light-weight and movable. It is therefore made from aluminium and it has light-weight, lockable hinges placed at every third rung – similar to a multi-positionable ladder.
The centre to centre rung spacing is 240mm and u4mE is 894mm wide.
